Transformative Innovation for Climate Change Adaptation in the Danube Region (TiCCA4Danu)

Regions and cities are required to find new pathways to respond to the increasingly frequent and tangible impacts of climate change. The TiCCA4Danu project adopts a place-based transformative and system-level approach to advance just climate change adaptation (CCA) at the city-region level.

TiCCA4Danu contributes to the EU Cities Mission and the EU Adaptation Mission by linking the concept of place-based transformative innovation policy (TIP) with the Local Green Deals (LGDs) instrument for implementation. The project seeks to establish transformative CCA measures across the Danube macro-region, focusing on Nord-Est (Romania), Podravska (Slovenia), Hajdú-Bihar (Hungary), and Burgas (Bulgaria).

As part of this EU-funded Horizon project, the working group at the University of Vienna employs a mixed-methods approach and collaborates with local stakeholders to analyze regional socio-economic fabrics, innovation processes, and socio-ecological challenges intersecting with climate change adaptation pressures. These conceptual and empirical insights will inform the development of region-specific CCA strategies and pathways.
