Research in practice

The implementation of concrete projects demonstrates the value of professional subject didactics for good practice in school. The following academic projects for schools were conducted in the area of didactics of geography and economic education in the last years. The modules, lesson sequences and materials developed and tested during these projects can be applied directly in practice.

  • MiDENTITY – What are the effects of everyday media activities of adolescents? What role do social media play in the construction of identity? Click here if you would like to investigate this topic with your students.
  • genderATlas für die Schule – gender atlas for schools. Income gap, choice of degree programmes, mayors, street names, etc. The gender atlas for school is an age-appropriate source of information about gender issues. Click here (information in German) if you would like to prepare your students for their pre-academic papers (vorwissenschaftliche Arbeit, VWA) by means of diverse assignments, methods and suggestions.
  • INSERT and INSERT-MONEY– Where can I find age-appropriate, practical lesson sequences for economic education in lower cycle secondary academic school? Two flagship projects initiated by the Fachgruppe Geographische und Soziökonomische Bildung (GESÖB, geography and socio-economic education group) aim to fill this gap. School practitioners have developed 55 sample lessons on the world of work, society, household, consumption, money and finances, and have tried and tested them together with subject didactics experts in schools.
