Bog drill
Bog drill
The stainless-steel bog drill is a hand driven piercing drill. The sampling section is a half cylinder. The peat drill differs from the standard auger drill in that it has a solid cone. The part that contains the sample is closed by a plate that can be rotated around the axis in the center of the sampler and has a cutting edge on one side. When the correct depth for sampling is reached, the entire sampler is rotated clockwise through 180 °. The plate remains in its position as it rotates. This allows the half cylinder to be filled and closed again. The semicircular sample cylinder is closed by the other side of the plate when it is removed. The peat borer is only suitable for very soft soils. To achieve maximum stability, the connections between the T-top part, the extension rods and the bottom part have been designed in the form of conical thread connections.
