Habitability and Human mobility: A translocal Case Study from Costa Rica
PhD Project: Ailín Allelen Benítez Cortés
Duration. 2024-2028
Abstract
This research aims to shed light on the complex interplay between adaptation limits, habitability and different forms of human mobility. By drawing on the concept of entangled translocal resilience, the project will address the following central research question: What role do human mobilities play in places that are experiencing limits to climate adaptation and where habitability is at stake? To exemplify this interrelation, this research will focus on two case studies in Costa Rica: the villages of Peñas Blancas and Caldera. These communities are highly exposed to environmental and climatic risks. The study will employ a qualitative, and multi-scale field research approach involving both communities and key local and national stakeholders.
