Heinz Faßmann Federal Minister again

The Institute for Geography and Regional Research congratulates Vice-Rector Heinz Faßmann on the new ministerial appointment

Heinz Faßmann has an impressive academic curriculum vitae. After his habilitation in 1991, he became the managing director of the Institute for Urban and Regional Research in 1992. In 1996 he changed to the Chair of Applied Geography at the Technical University of Munich. In 2000, however, he returned to Vienna and took over the professorship for applied geography, spatial research and spatial planning from us at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research, and in 2006 he was again the managing director at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research. As a recognized migration researcher, he has also been Chairman of the Expert Council for Integration in the BMEIA since 2010.

But Heinz Faßmann was not only active in science, he was also always actively involved in academic self-administration and gained experience as a science manager in various areas. He was Vice Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy and became Vice Rector of the University of Vienna in 2011.

Heinz Faßmann is not only an outstanding scientist, he is also a proven expert in the university and research landscape due to his experience and previous positions in his career.

We are pleased that the science agendas are in extremely competent hands.
